The Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities (Shanghai Award) Application Deadline Extended to 21 July 2023

UN-Habitat is pleased to announce the extension of the submission deadline for the 1st cycle of the Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities (Shanghai Award) to 21 July 2023. This extension aims to accommodate the increasing interest and demand from cities worldwide, as well as to provide the opportunity for some applying cities to have enough time to better prepare and finalize their applications.

As mentioned in early news with regards to the Call for Applications of Shanghai Award on 6th April 2023 on UN-Habitat website, we  encourage cities that are interested in applying Shanghai Award to complete and submit the application form on the official website shanghaiaward.org before the Extended Deadline. If you are UN agencies other than UN-Habitat, or organisations and institutions that have consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) or that have been specially invited by UN-Habitat, you are also welcome to nominate cities to submit applications before the Extended Deadline.

A Shanghai Award ceremony, jointly organized by UN-Habitat and Shanghai Municipality, will take place in China at the end of October 2023 as part of the World Cities Day celebrations. We look forward to meeting the representatives from cities including winner cities of Shanghai Award and jointly to celebrate World Cities Day, and to share your best practices and outstanding achievement among others.

To apply, visit the award official website, shanghaiaward.org. Cities that have submitted applications are also welcome to make changes to their entries during the deadline extension period if needed. For inquiries, please contact the task force of the award at siqi.chen@un.org and outreach@shanghaiaward.org.
