Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities (Shanghai Award) is a global initiative jointly established by UN-Habitat, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. Specifically targeting cities, ‘Shanghai Award’ is dedicated to recognising the outstanding progress and achievements of cities and municipalities around the world in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda as well as the New Urban Agenda. ‘Shanghai Award’ will also provide a vibrant platform for cities to exchange their experience and learn from each other, and help cities to better achieve their development goals.
The establishment of the Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities (Shanghai Award) was announced by the Executive Director of UN-Habitat at its firt session of the Executive Board meeting in 2022 on 30 March.
