The application includes two approaches: self-application and application with nomination. The application can be submitted through the online application portal of this website.

The profound achievements of the city in realising the SDGs and/or the NUA on the local level, and the proven impact in economic vitality, urban prosperity, green urban development, urban safety and resilience, and/or capacity building for sustainable development.

The innovative approaches, methods, practices, technologies or instruments to enable the realisation of the SDGs and the NUA. This can be demonstrated through policy and legislation, planning and design, governance, financing mechanisms, etc.

This can be demonstrated through (a) medium-to-long-term strategies and plans (b) clear demonstration of 'people-centered approach' and ‘leave no one behind’; (c) actions to institutionalise successful practices; (d) sustainable financing and investment.

This focuses on the extent to which the city's practices, approaches or strategies can be replicated, adopted or scaled up by cities of the same type, similar stage of development, or region in which the city is located.
