The Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities (Shanghai Award) is a global initiative led by UN-Habitat and Shanghai Municipality. Specifically targeting cities, the award is dedicated to recognising the outstanding progress and achievements of cities and municipalities around the world in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda as well as the New Urban Agenda. The award also provides a vibrant platform for cities to exchange their experience and learn from each other, and help cities to better achieve their development goals. 

 

The establishment of the Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities (Shanghai Award) was officially announced by the Executive Director of UN-Habitat at the first session of the 2022 Executive Board of UN-Habitat on 30 March 2022.
